NEW!!! Abednego's Free At the present time, we are accepting submissions for our Abednego’s Free imprint. The Abednego’s Free imprint publishes fiction for young adult and mature teen readers. General Guidelines: Our advice is to read the Hold On Be Strong Series by Jarold Imes. The Hold On Be Strong Series tackles strong social issues such as teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, being bullied, gangs, homosexuality and other issues that affect our youth. As of today, four titles have been released as part of this series and four more will follow by April 2008. We are looking to publish other authors in this genre beginning August 2008. It is our plan for this imprint to publish six to ten new titles per academic school year. Some of the books we published have become main or alternative reads for teens in grades six and up. Under the Abednego’s Free imprint, we publish all genres including Christian/Inspirational, Street/Urban/Hip-Hop Fiction, Contemporary, Romance and Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror. We accept books that either stand alone or are part of a series. We prefer that the lead characters be of African and/or Hispanic decent. The settings can be either urban or suburban. Our books are strong enough for adults but made for teens. We allow some suggestive language but we encourage our authors to use creative descriptions and substitutes for some words. Keep in mind it is easier to promote a title in the schools if it has limited to no cursing; especially in the middle schools. Please send a cover page, query letter and the first four chapters of your book. On your cover page, please be sure to put your name, address, phone number, email address and best time to contact you. All submissions should be typed in a size 12 serif based font (our house font is Garamond; we accept Times New Roman, Courier and other similar fonts in submissions). Your name, book title and page number should be in the header of the pages. Word count for our books typically range from 30,000 to 60,000 words and include discussion questions to encourage interaction between adult readers and teens. Allow six to eight weeks for notification of the status of your manuscript. Enclose a self-addressed envelope with enough postage for return should your manuscript not be accepted. Please do not call asking for status of your manuscript. Send all submissions to:
Abednego’s Free Young Diamond Books We would like the manuscript to be between 30,000-40,000 words and for the content to be of the urban lit genre. The story can't have any explicit language, or graphic sex and violence. We want the story to be strong enough for an adult but appropriate for a teenager. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
