OurTeenVoices.com/Worth Fighting 4 Essay Contest: I am proud to acknowledge the humble beginning of the OurTeenVoices.com/WORTH FIGHTING 4 Essay Contest. It has been a desire of mine to do this contest/scholarship for a few years and now I believe is the perfect time to launch the contest. As you know, WORTH FIGHTING 4 is about a group of sixth graders who fight a local gang for control of their middle school. The sixth graders develop their entrepreneurial skills by selling candy to their fellow school mates and confront racial prejudices that blacks and Hispanics have against each other. WORTH FIGHTING 4 also has the distinction of launching my HOLD ON BE STRONG TEEN SERIES and I am very proud of what this book has done and what I believe it will continue to do in the future. This year, the rules are simple. I will supply two prompts based on themes in this book. After having read the book, the students are to respond to one of the two prompts:
The WORTH FIGHTING 4 Scholarship consists of one grand prize of $500.00 to go towards a book stipend at a public or private four year institution. A $250.00 second prize book stipend and a $100.00 third prize book stipend will also be awarded, making the inaugural purse worth $850.00. Here are the rules:
Students participating in the contest need to have their essay, an official transcript and the two references in the mail postmarked by March 25, 2008. The application packet should be mailed to:
WORTH FIGHTING 4 Essay Contest/Scholarship Winners will be announced Monday, May 5, 2008. Scholarship money will be released one month prior to the first day of class of the winner’s four year public or private school. Immediate family members (defined as child, grandchild, brother, sister, in laws, any form of legal guardianship) of Jarold Imes, Employees of Abednego’s Free, LLC or independent contractors, or immediate family members of any author who has published a book between 1996 and the present are ineligible to participate.
