OTV: What Genre Do You Write In?

DR: I write poetry, I read fiction, mystery, romance.

OTV: When did you read your first book?

DR: At age 15.

OTV: In your opinion, what is the difference between romance & erotica?

DR: Romance gives you just a taste, erotica puts it right out there, tasteful or sometimes not.

OTV: How old were you when you first read a romance or erotic book?

DR: I was 15 I read Jackie Cillins, I think it was Lucky.

OTV: When do you think it's appropriate for a teen to read romance, erotica, street/urban/hip-hop lit?

DR: I think around 16 or 17 is a good age to read a romance novel .I think street. urban novels are for the 20 something. The content and theme is too much for 16 or 17. Although our youth reviewers read them.

OTV: How do you address sex situations with your teens?

DR: I was a nurse for 17 years, I found it easy to talk to my son about sex. He never had a problem or his friends to ask me sexual related questions.

OTV: What is the difference between romance and erotica twenty to thirty years ago to romance and erotica today?

DR: Erotica today is much more open, more sexual. graphic. Years ago it was a taste to what is written now.

OTV: How should young adult authors handle the sex issue?

DR: Be real, try to promote safe sex when possible.

OTV: What situations in literature would be taking it too far for teens?

DR: All the pole rider, strip club dancer dramas.

OTV: What books that talk about sex would you recommend for teens?

DR: Not sure off the top of my head.
